The publisher behind Call of Duty, Activision has announced an innovative move. Now the players will have to pay extra to unlock the top-tier rewards in the upcoming Squid Game crossover event, marking a first for the franchise.
In a recent blog entry, Activision unveiled the details of the Squid Game event featuring a limited-time multiplayer mode called Red Light, Green Light for Black Ops 6.
In addition to this, players can look forward to new operator bundles inspired by characters from the very famous Netflix series, available for both Black Ops 6 and Warzone.
However, one aspect that has stirred controversy is the introduction of the Squid Game Event Pass. This pass consists of both, a free reward track and a premium one. Activision has laid out the rewards for each track, with the premium track boasting highly sought-after Front Man Operator skin, priced at 1,100 COD points.
Here is a glimpse of what the premium reward track offers, While all players can earn items through the free reward track, the Premium reward track unlocks even more exclusive themed rewards.
By purchasing the Premium track, players can immediately access the ‘High Authority’ XM4 Assault Rifle Blueprint, along with the blueprints for the Knife, GS45 Pistol, and Saug SMG.
Additional rewards include a concussion grenade equipment skin, a unique Finishing Move, the Throwdown Emote, the Who’s Left talking Gun Screen, and much more.
Call of Duty enthusiasts are no strangers to battle passes, premium versions, and even price iterations on top of the initial $70 game price. Yet, this marks the first instance of a Call of Duty even launching its own premium battle pass. Unsurprisingly, the response has been hugely negative, especially as the dedicated Call of Duty community expresses frustration over the current state of Black Ops 6 and Warzone.
